Coast 07 Boys Take Top Honors in Charleston
Monday October 12, 2015
Five Coast FA teams returned home with medals from the Charleston Shootout over the weekend. The event went forward despite torrential rainfall amounts and widespread flooding in the low country area. “The Mount Pleasant club did a terrific job putting on the event in less than ideal conditions. Many thanks go to them for finding a way not to disappoint the players that participated” said Coast Director Heyward Gulledge.
Champion medals from the first division U8 boys went to the Coast 07 Red team coached by Carl Clark. The boys posted four straight victories and survived a wild second round match that saw goals being scored at record pace by both clubs.
After recording three lopsided victories in pool play the Coast 06 Black team coached by Eugene Dougherty came up short in the final of the U9 third division against DISA. The team scored twenty two goals over their four matches in Charleston.
The Coast 05 Black team coached by Mario Benjamin saw a championship elude them by the most narrow of margins losing out on a points tie breaker. The team posted three convincing results in the second division of U10 but managed only a tie against the eventual champions from DSC.
Thomas Tamale’s Coast 01 Red ran into a strong Palmetto United team that prevented them from winning top honors in the first division of U14. The 01 Red claimed two quality wins during pool play but could not find a way to get through PUFC in the finals.
Coach Joel Banta’s 99 Red took a weekend off from their hectic R3PLE schedule and finished as finalists at the Shootout in the top U16 division. The boys had nice results against CESA and DISA but dropped a close one against USA Mount Pleasant Premier in the final.
