Three Coast FA teams brought home hardware from the Adidas Clash at beautiful Bryan Park over the weekend in Greensboro, N.C. The event also saw the Coastal Carolina men capture the championship of the Big South Tournament 1-0 over Radford to advance to the NCAA field of forty eight teams.

Coach Karl Thorsen’s Coast 04 Black team (Click For Image) claimed finalist honors in the U10 Silver Division coming up short in the championship against a powerful FC Barcelona side. The boys reeled off three quality wins on their way to the championship winning very close decisions in each. “This group of kids deserve this medal as much as any group I have ever been associated with. They have persevered through a very difficult fall season so to be finalist at the Greensboro event is very satisfying ” said Coach Karl Thorsen .

Coach Stepheney Burnett’s Coast 05 Red girls (Click For Image)  side dropped a heartbreaker in extra time of the U9 top division championship. After finishing atop the standing after round robin play the 05 Red conceded a golden goal to Greensboro Valencia to finish as finalist. ” I could not be more proud of the way we played as a team and how they maintained their composure during some very competitive matches. They supported and encouraged one another and never gave up ” said Coach Stepheney Burnett.

The Coast 00 Red U14 boys (Click For Image)  won yet another tournament despite playing in the top division of U15 at Greensboro. Coach Joel Banta has the team hitting on all cylinders heading into a very high level Atlanta event in two weeks.” The boys were consistent in all areas of play and each of my players contributed to give us a great result ” said Coach Banta.

Coast DOC Ross Morgan added ” The Greensboro Clash is played at one of the best soccer facilities in the country and it allows our kids to see some teams that we normally do not face. The difference of climate and slight rule changes gets our kids out of their comfort zone and makes them grow as players”.
